The Second Economic Policy Dialogue between Mongolia and the United States was held on May 22, 2018, in Washington D.C. The Mongolian side was led by H.E.Mr. D. Tsogtbaatar, Minister for Foreign Affairs, while the US side was led by Mr. Brian McFeeters, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.
From the Mongolian side, the meeting was attended by the representatives of the Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Department of the Americas, Middle East, and Africa, the Department of International Law and Treaty of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, and the Embassy of Mongolia in Washington D.C. The US was represented by the Department of State, Department of Commerce, Department of Treasury, Department of Health and Human Services, Export-Import Bank, Millennium Challenge Corporation, and the OPIC.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on a broad spectrum of the economic relations between two countries. For instance, issues such as the US Government’s Indo-Pacific strategy, Mongolia’s macroeconomic reform and investment environment, the promotion of trade, legal advice, diversification of exports of Mongolian goods and services, support for small and medium enterprises, private sector investment, health, social security benefits, renewable energy and the environment were discussed in-depth. Moreover, the two sides discussed plans to develop a roadmap to expand the economic cooperation.
The two sides welcomed the successful conclusion of the negotiations over the Second Compact Agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation and agreed to hold the next round of the TIFA talks shortly.
