THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE PARTICIPATED IN THE SEVENTH SESSION OF THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL GROUP OF EXPERTS ON E-COMMERCE AND THE DIGITAL ECONOMY

H.E. Mrs. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Mongolia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, was elected as the Vice Chair at the seventh session of the UNCTAD Intergovernmental Group of Experts on E-commerce and the Digital Economy, held in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 6 to 8, 2024.

H.E. Mrs. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, Permanent Representative and Ambassador, chaired the session themed “Moving from assessment to the formulation of E-commerce strategies and action plans”, whose focus is identifying good practices and tools to enable sustained and impactful implementation of e-commerce initiatives.

During the session, the Permanent Representative and Ambassador outlined the Mongolian Government’s policies aimed at digitalization and economic diversification, shedding light on Mongolia’s progress in establishing a robust e-commerce ecosystem and addressing remaining challenges.

The eTrade Readiness Assessment of Mongolia was conducted by UNCTAD and launched under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications in Ulaanbaatar in June 2023.

The primary objective of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on E-commerce and the Digital Economy is to bolster UNCTAD’s efforts in information and communications technologies, e-commerce, and the digital economy. The group seeks to reduce the digital divide and foster more inclusive knowledge societies.
