The First Session of the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) took place on 5-8 February, 2024.
Mr. Enkhbold Vorshilov, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia, and Mr. Alexander Marschik, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Austria, co-chaired the plenary session. During the general debate of the Prep Comm session, Ms. Rabab Fatima, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States provided an overview of the preparatory work for the conference. About 60 representatives from member states, the UN system, and international organizations shared perspectives on their contributions to the conference and its importance for sustainable development for LLDCs.
Throughout discussions on the development Programme of Action for LLDCs for the next decade, member states actively engaged and expressed their positions on the inputs to be incorporated into the outcome document.
The Second Session of the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee for the Third UN Conference on LLDCs is scheduled to take place from 29th April to 1st May, 2024. In addition, the intersessional informal discussions on the draft of outcome document will be held in due course.
