THE HIGH-LEVEL MEETING ON SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT CONVENED AS PART OF THE SUSTAINABILITY WEEK IN NEW YORK

During the “Sustainability Week”, convened in New York on April 15-19, 2024, deliberations on a range of critical issues, including sustainable transportation, infrastructure development, tourism promotion, energy sustainability, debt management and strategies to foster social and economic equality, took place.

 

The High-level meeting on Sustainable Transport was convened on April 16-17, 2024. The representatives gathered to deliberate on the pivotal role of the transport sector in advancing sustainable development objectives and to address pertinent issues for consideration. During the plenary session on sustainable transportation, government representatives from over 70 countries actively participated, offering their perspectives and insights on this critical topic.

 

Deputy Foreign Minister Amartuvshin Gombosuren delivered a statement on behalf of the Group of the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) at the plenary session and highlighted the significant challenges posed by high transportation costs for LLDCs, underscoring their detrimental impact on investment, competitiveness and economic growth. Emphasizing the imperative to address these issues comprehensively, he stressed the need for LLDCs to resolve transportation connectivity with neighboring countries and necessity for collective action to explore innovative financing solutions to address infrastructure investment requirements.

 

Furthermore, the Deputy Foreign Minister highlighted Mongolia’s national policies and initiatives on sustainable transportation development, including the “Port Revival” strategy under the “New Revival Policy”. The “Sustainability Week” continues to discuss issues related to infrastructure development and sustainable energy.
