The first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission between Mongolia and the State of Kuwait was held during 23rd -24th May in Kuwait city. The Mongolian delegation was headed by H.E Munkhbat Jamiyan, Minister of Mongolia and Chief of Cabinet Secretariat.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a variety of issues of developing economic cooperation, investment, aid, implementation of joint projects and cooperation in the field of culture and media sectors.
The parties noted that the friendly relations between Mongolia and Kuwait has been developing over 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, in particular the political relations have reached a higher level. They also mutually agreed to increase investment and expand cooperation between private sectors and noted that the Intergovernmental Commission mechanism will play important role in deepening the cooperation.
Alongside with the event, two sides signed the agreement on financing construction of a Burn Treatment Center of Mongolia and discussed about cooperation in the tourism sector and agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding in the near future. The Mongolian side requested a support from Kuwait to implement some projects, including financing a building of the National Central Library and paving a landing strip of Undurkhaan Airport with asphalt.
The Kuwaiti side informed that they are studying a Mongolian proposal on protocol on veterinary, hygienic and quarantine requirements for exports of meat and live animals from Mongolia to Kuwait and on establishing a cooperation document between standards organizations of the two countries.
The two sides agreed on cooperation in the media sector, studying experience, organizing study tours and taking measures to advertise the culture and traditions of the two countries. The Kuwaiti side proposed to sign a program of cooperation in the field of cultural sector for 2017-2019 and delivered a draft document. The two sides agreed to continue work to sign the program.
During the meeting, within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and the Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia signed in 2007 the Mongolian side requested Kuwaiti side to export crude oil to Mongolia and refine it, train Mongolian specialists in oil sector and include Mongolian request into Kuwaiti export schedule beginning from 2018.
The Kuwaiti side invited Mongolia to attend the Second International Trade Fair to be held in Kuwait in February 2018.
During the session of the Intergovernmental Commission, Minister Munkhbat Jamiyan held the bilateral meetings with H.E Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Diwan Amiri Affairs, H.E Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, H.E. Mr. Khalifa Musaed Hamada, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Abdulwahab Al-Bader, Director General of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and Mr. Farouq Ali Bastaki, Managing Director of Kuwait Investment Authority and exchanged views on the bilateral relations and cooperation.
The Mongolian delegation were consisted of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture and Industry, Ministry of Environment and Tourism and Development Bank of Mongolia, while Kuwaiti delegation were consisted of nearly 30 representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Information, Culture, Arts, Public Authority for Civil Aviation, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and Kuwait Investment Authority.
At the end of the session, the two sides expressed their satisfaction with the result of the meeting of Intergovernmental Commission and reaffirmed to work together for the implementation of the mutually agreed issues.
The first meeting of Intergovernmental Commission between Mongolia and the State of Kuwait had a significant importance for the strengthening of the current ties between two countries and expanding the cooperation into more sectors.
At the final of the session of the Intergovernmental Commission H.E Mr. Munkhbat Jamiyan, Minister of Mongolia and Chief of Cabinet Secretariat and H.E Mr. Khalifa Musaed Hamada, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance of the State of Kuwait signed on the Joint Agreed Minutes of the meeting.
The head of delegation of Mongolia expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti side for hosting the meeting of Intergovernmental Commission and invited H.E Mr. Khalifa Musaed Hamada, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance to visit Mongolia.
The parties agreed to organize the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia.
