On October 12th 2021, B.Battsetseg, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia participated in the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
The ministerial meeting was attended by foreign ministers and deputy ministers of the 27 CICA member countries, including Russia, India, Mongolia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan. During the meeting, ministers exchanged views on how to cooperate in the new society, revive and intensify social and economic activities, and ensure regional security and stability.
In her remarks, Foreign Minister B.Battsetseg highlighted that the meeting is taking place during important time where strengthening cooperation and working more closely to respond effectively to the many challenges posed by the post-pandemic period. Minister noted that the CICA was an effective platform for dialogue on international and regional peace and security and for the development of social and economic cooperation. The Heads of Delegation met with Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and attended the official opening of the CICA Secretariat Secretariat.
The proposal to establish a Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia was put forward by Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, former President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on October 5th, 1992 during the 47th session of the UN General Assembly. 2022 will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the CICA.
