STATE SECRETARY OF THE MONGOLIAN MFA D. DAVAASUREN ATTENDS ASEM FOREIGN MINISTERS’ MEETING IN MYANMAR

The 13th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 20-21 November 2017. The Meeting was chaired by Her Excellency Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Delegations from 51 Asian and European countries headed by Foreign Ministers/High-level Representatives as well as the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN Political-Security Community attended the meeting. The Mongolian delegation was headed by His Excellency Mr. Davaasuren Damdinsuren, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ASEM FMM 13 was convened under the theme “Strengthening Partnership for Peace and Sustainable Development” and during the meeting, the delegates exchanged their views on relevant issues of common interests and explored most effective and efficient ways to create a stronger partnership between Asia and Europe. Ministers also discussed a wide range of regional and international issues as well as global challenges.

In his statement at the plenary session, the head of the Mongolian delegation noted that one of the most important results of ASEM Summit held in Ulaanbaatar in 2016 was its decision to establish the ASEM Pathfinder Group on Connectivity and stressed the importance of synergizing connectivity initiatives and projects both within and beyond ASEM. More in particular, he proposed to explore the possibility for mainstreaming the Economic Corridor Program concluded between Mongolia, China and Russia to ASEM activities.

On the margins of the ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, H.E. Mr. D.Davaasuren, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs met his counterparts from the Republic of Korea, Poland, Romania and the Russian Federation, and discussed the bilateral and other issues of mutual concern.
