PRIME MINISTER L.OYUN-ERDENE MEETS WITH PRIME MINISTER OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA HAN DUCK-SOO

During his working visit to the Republic of Korea, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene held a bilateral meeting with his counterpart Han Duck-soo, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, on 1 April 2024 in Seoul.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene expressed gratitude for the humanitarian aid worth 200 thousand USD provided by the Government of the Republic of Korea to overcome Dzud natural disaster.

The Prime Minister noted that there is a vast opportunity for the two countries to intensify collaboration in the tourism sector, increase the people-to-people exchanges and enhance the partnership between businesses in this sector as the number of Korean tourists who visited Mongolia in 2023 increased by 60% compared to the period before the pandemic, reaching 140 thousand.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Han Duck-soo extended his congratulations on the successful launching and organization of the “Go Mongolia” event held on 28 March 2024 in Seoul to promote Mongolia overseas. Emphasizing on improving the economic cooperation and trade turnover of the two countries, he expressed the importance of accelerating the establishment of the Economic Partnership Agreement and the promotion of cooperation in mineral resources.

In the tourism sector, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene proposed to jointly implement the “People with Blue Spots” travel route project.

Furthermore, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene expressed Mongolia’s interest in importing high-quality medicines from South Korea, introducing the Korean standard for pharmaceutical manufacturing in Mongolia, and enhancing cooperation in the health sector. Also, he suggested the possibility of exporting wheat and fodder grain from Mongolia to South Korea.

On the same day, Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene received President of the Export-Import Bank of the Republic of Korea Yoon Hee-sung. During the meeting, the parties reviewed the joint projects and programs implemented since 1992 and discussed the future investments, improvements in the credit issuance, accelerating the project implementation, and renewing of documents and scope of development cooperation.

The parties agreed on collaboration in infrastructure projects in Ulaanbaatar city such as tunnel and road construction to be implemented under the Regional Development Policy of the Government of Mongolia. They also reached common understanding to establish a Memorandum of Understanding between the Development Bank of Mongolia and the Export-Import Bank for cooperation and exchange of experiences.
