MONGOLIAN DOCUMENTARY HERITAGE ITEMS INSCRIBED IN THE UNESCO MEMORY OF THE WORLD REGIONAL REGISTER FOR ASIA AND THE PACIFIC

The 10th General Meeting of the Memory of the World Regional Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP) of the UNESCO was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on 6-10 May 2024.

Throughout the meeting, Member States presented their documentary heritage nominations for the 2023-2024 cycle, resulting in the inscription of 20 new items into the regional register after a rigorous voting process. This latest round of additions brings the total number of inscriptions in the regional register to 85.

Mongolia has contributed significantly to this esteemed register in previous years, including inscriptions such as the Lu.Altan Tobči (Golden Summary) in 2010, the Sutra of the Great Deity Tara in 2014, and the Woodblocks of the Origin of Sages: Tibetan-Mongolian bilingual dictionary in 2016.

Adding to this legacy, Mongolia proudly announces the inscription of two remarkable elements: “The Family Chart of Hereditary Lords of the Khalkha Mongols, the House of Genghis Khan” and “Mongolia’s First Postage Stamps Eldev-Ochir”.
