On 1 December 2018, the 8th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World 2018 fashion event was held at Centara Grand Hotel and Convention Centre in Bangkok. The event was opened by His Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand in presence of guests including high-ranking government officials, members of diplomatic corps and representatives of Thai business circle and fashion world among others.
This international event has been organized by the Tourist Assistance Foundation with the active participation and support of SHOM (Spouses of Heads of Missions) for the 8th consecutive year.
This year 58 international designers took part in the event by designing dresses and suits made from Thai silk for 35 contestants of Miss Universe 2017, as well as for ambassadors, spouses of ambassadors and Embassy representatives from 48 countries accredited to Thailand. To make the show a great success, 3,500 meters of Thai Silk had been delivered to designers from around the world.
Mongolian designer Miss Otgonlkham Rinchin has successfully participated in the “Thai Silk Road to the World 2018” with her “Rinchin Yesui” brand dress worn by Mrs. Doljinsuren Tsend-Ayush, spouse of the Mongolian Ambassador to Thailand.
The highlight of the Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World was a special appearance of the world-famous fashion designer Jimmy Choo presenting a pair of shoes made from Thai silk for Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign.
