The Fifth Political Consultative Meeting between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Federative Republic of Brazil was successfully held on September 7, 2018, in Ulaanbaatar. The meeting co-chaired by Mr. D. Davaasuren, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and by Ambassador Henrique Sardinha, Undersecretary General for Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the current political and socio-economic situation of the respective countries, as well as the issues of regional and international relations of mutual interests, and discussed the opportunities, short-term goals and prospects for expanding the bilateral cooperation. For instance, the Brazilian side expressed the possibility of signing the technical cooperation agreement in the near future and implementing projects and programs in agricultural sector within the framework of the agreement.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding celebrated in the areas of education and sports, the both sides agreed upon taking certain measures on preparing diplomats specialized in Latin American affairs, sending Mongolian students to graduate and post-graduate degrees in Brazilian universities, exchanging trainers and mutually inviting athletes in international competitions in soccer and judo tournaments. Taking into account that the citizens of two countries enjoy visa-free travel since 2015; and that the number of Brazilian tourists visiting China has been increasing in recent years, the sides highlighted existing opportunities to bring them to Mongolia and consequently, organize joint business meetings between organizations of both countries, operating in the tourism sector.
Moreover, the two parties underlined that both countries have been actively working together in the UN and other international organizations, and assured their commitment to further strengthening multilateral cooperation.
There also are potentials to expand cooperation in the fields of agriculture, mining, ethanol and bio-fuel industries with Brazil.
As Brazil celebrates the 196th anniversary of the Independence Day on the 7th of September, State Secretary D. Davaasuren handed over the letter of congratulations from the President of Mongolia, H.E. Kh.Battulga to the President, H.E. Michel Temer on that occasion. Mongolia and Brazil established diplomatic relations on June 18, 1987.
