The Eleventh Annual Bilateral Consultations (ABC) between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the State Department of the United States of America was successfully held in Washington DC on December 1, 2016. The Mongolian side was headed by Mr. Davaasuren Damdinsuren, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Mr. Daniel R. Russel, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, was head of the American delegation. Also, Mr.Altangerel Bulgaa, Ambassador of Mongolia to the US, and Ms. Jennifer Z.Galt, Ambassador of the United States to Mongolia, were presented among other officials.
During the Bilateral Consultations, the Mongolian side has informed the activities of the Government of Mongolia, aimed to overcome the economic difficulties, attract foreign investment and regain investors’ trust, and the priorities of the foreign policy.
At 11th ABC, sides consulted on bilateral cooperation issues, such as trade and economic cooperation, including attraction and support of the American investment into Mongolia, military and defense, agriculture, energy and security, finalization and implementation of the Transparency Agreement and conclusion of the Second Compact Agreement of the US Millennium Challenge Corporation.
Also, Parties have discussed in details on implementation of consultative mechanism on consular issues, joint commemoration of the 30th anniversary of establishment of the diplomatic relations between the countries, and deepening the education, culture and people’s exchanges.
State Secretary Davaasuren has met with senior officials from the National Security Council and research institutions to discuss the issues of international relations and North East Asian security and stability.
The American side underlined the active role of Mongolia in strengthening democracy, sharing its experience in development of democracy and civil society in the region, model of international peace-keeping, active role as UNHRC member and expressed its support toward Mongolia’s desire.
