MEMBERS OF THE UNITED NATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE ON THE PREVENTION OF TORTURE PAY VISIT TO MONGOLIA

On 6 May 2024, members of the United Nations (UN) Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture, led by Ms. Elina Steinerte, met with representatives from relevant government organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Representatives from the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, General Prosecutors Office, Independent Authority Against Corruption, General Intelligence Agency, General Executive Agency of Court Decision, National Police Agency, Customs General Administration, General Staff of the Armed Forces attended the meeting and presented the implementation of the Convention against Torture, which Mongolia is a signatory to, and its Additional Protocol, as well as the law, legal environment, and reforms in the field of preventing and combating torture.

In 2017, members of the Subcommittee conducted a working visit to Mongolia, during which they submitted a report on the state of torture in the country and its prevention, along with relevant recommendations.

The subcommittee members will work in Mongolia from May 6 to May 15, 2024.
