HEADS OF STATE OF MONGOLIA AND TURKMENISTAN HOLD OFFICIAL TALKS

At the invitation of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Mongolia Ukhnaa Khurelsukh is on a State Visit to Turkmenistan from October 10-13, 2024.

The Heads of State held official talks at the Oguzhan Presidential Palace in Ashgabat on October 11, 2024.
The official talks were conducted in a warm and constructive atmosphere. The Parties exchanged views on deepening the friendly relations between Mongolia and Turkmenistan, enriching cooperation with new content, including expanding cooperation in agriculture, transportation, logistics, tourism, education, culture, and other sectors, as well as on a wide range of issues of cooperation in the international and regional arena.


At the beginning of the talks, President Khurelsukh expressed his sincere gratitude to President Berdimuhamedov, the Government and the people of Turkmenistan for their warm welcome and hospitality in Turkmenistan, a country with the breathtaking natural beauty located at the juncture of the Silk Road connecting Asia and Europe.
President Khurelsukh noted that Mongolia is committed to deepening friendly relations with Turkmenistan and other Central Asian countries and bolstering mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation.

President Berdimuhamedov expressed his confidence that the current State Visit, the first-ever visit at the level of a Head of State since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992, would provide a significant impetus to expanding friendly relations between Mongolia and Turkmenistan and strengthening friendship between the people of two countries.

The Heads of State reviewed the achievements of the past 30 years and expressed their satisfaction for identifying prospects and directions of bilateral relations cooperation in the coming years and opening a new chapter of the relations.

The Heads of State commended the signing of agreements and contracts between the Governments and organizations that will provide an important impetus to strengthening the legal framework of Mongolia-Turkmenistan relations.


The Parties agreed that cooperation in the transport and logistics sector is significant for expanding and developing economic cooperation between the two countries and emphasized the signing of agreements between Governments on air services and international road transport.

Both Parties agreed to expand cooperation in the agricultural sector and increase bilateral trade turnover by signing contracts on cooperation in agriculture, veterinary medicine, and animal husbandry and agreed to mutually supply agricultural and light industrial products to the markets of Mongolia and Turkmenistan.

President Khurelsukh proposed to research and implement joint projects and programs that could become symbols of Mongolia-Turkmenistan relations based on the resources and potential of the two countries’ agricultural and light industry sectors.

President Berdimuhamedov commended the organization of the “Mongolia-Turkmenistan Business Forum” during the visit, noting that it lays a solid foundation for future partnership between entrepreneurs and wealth creators of the two countries and is important for expanding trade and investment cooperation.

President of Mongolia Khurelsukh emphasized that cultural exchanges have made an invaluable contribution to strengthening the friendship between the people of the two countries and applauded the organization of the “Mongolia-Turkmenistan Joint Cultural Performance” in Ashgabat as a vivid manifestation of this grand tradition.

Both parties commented on the active cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations, and Turkmenistan expressed its willingness to explore the possibility of joining the Mongolia-initiated Multilateral Agreement for the Establishment of the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries in the near future.

The Heads of State agreed to work closely on combating climate change, desertification and protecting the environment, and to collaborate in the environmental sector by aligning the “One Billion Trees” national campaign initiated by the President of Mongolia with the “Afforestation of Turkmenistan” national program initiated by the President of Turkmenistan.

As an outcome of the official talks, President Khurelsukh and President Berdimuhamedov issued a Joint Declaration on the Relationship and Cooperation between Mongolia and Turkmenistan.
