On 14th of August 2020, H.E. Mr. Tumur Amarsanaa, Ambassador-Designate of Mongolia to the Kingdom of Thailand, presented his Letter of Credence to H.E. Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the United Nations ESCAP, accrediting him as the Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the UN ESCAP. During the meeting Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana and Permanent Representative A.Tumur exchanged views on further expanding Mongolia-ESCAP cooperation as well as relevant projects and programs. H.E. A.Tumur expressed his satisfaction with successful Mongolia-ESCAP cooperation, in the areas, such as environment protection, statistics, disaster risk reduction, transit transport, trade facilitation and protection of interests of landlocked developing countries. Furthermore, he expressed his willingness to collaborate on issues, such as increasing access to drinking and clean water, active participation in the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development, reducing air pollution in the Asia-Pacific, and fighting desertification and land degradation.
Executive Secretary Armida Alisjahbana congratulated H.E. A.Tumur on assuming his duties as Permanent Representative and reaffirmed her commitment to further strengthen Mongolia-ESCAP relations. The Executive Secretary noted that during her last year’s visit to Mongolia, she had several meetings with high level Mongolian officials, during which she was briefed on areas of special importance to Mongolia and expressed interest in cooperating in these areas.
The Permanent Representative praised the Commission leadership in designing the regional response due to COVID-19 pandemic, and providing guidance and recommendations in overcoming the impact caused by the pandemic. H.E. A.Tumur also briefed on the response by the Mongolian Government to COVID-19, outlined and informed about the results of the parliamentary elections and the draft Action Plan of the new Government of Mongolia.
