H.E. Mr. Purevsuren Lundeg, Foreign Minister of Mongolia, had a meeting with Ms. Shamshad Akhtar, Under-Secretary-General of the UN and Executive Secretary of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific on Friday, 10 June 2016.
During the meeting, H.E. Mr. Purevsuren Lundeg thanked the Executive Secretary for coming to Mongolia to attend the ASEM Finance Ministers’ Meeting, and noted that the outcome of the Meeting will contribute to the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the continued support and cooperation of UN ESCAP in achieving Mongolia’s socio-economic development, especially infrastructure development and promoting the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries.
Furthermore, the minister underlined that it is important that the Executive Secretary of one of the UN system organizations is visiting Mongolia, as this year marks the 55th Anniversary of Mongolia’s membership to UN. Moreover, they exchanged views on further cooperation in implementing sustainable development goals, as well as regional and North East Asia subregional joint projects and programs in the areas of energy, science and technology.
Executive Secretary of ESCAP Ms. Shamshad Akhtar and Mr. Kilaparti Ramakrishna, Director of ESCAP Subregional Office for East and North-East are in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to attend the 12th ASEM Finance Ministers’ Meeting.
