On April 22, 2024, Mrs. Battsetseg Batmunkh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and Chair of the 80th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), met with Ms. Rabab Fatima, UN Under Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed, Landlocked Developing, and Small Island Developing States, in Bangkok, Thailand, to exchange of views on potential avenues for cooperation.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister B. Battsetseg underscored the proactive endeavors undertaken by the High Representative’s Office in addressing the challenges encountered by the countries with specific needs in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for the steadfast support extended to the International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries, established in Ulaanbaatar at the initiative of Mongolia.
High Representative R. Fatima expressed sincere appreciation to Mongolia for its efforts to protect the rights and interests of the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), thereby fulfilling its commitments to the international community. The High Representative reaffirmed a commitment to support the proposals and initiatives put forward by Mongolia.
In its capacity as the Vice Chair of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries, Mongolia assumes the role of Co-chairing the Preparatory Committee for the Third United Nations Conference on LLDCs and actively participating in the preparation of this significant high-level conference.
