DR. SHAHBAZ KHAN, THE DIRECTOR OF UNESCO CLUSTER OFFICE IN JAKARTA ATTENDED THE MONGOLIAN INNOVATION WEEK IN ULAANBAATAR, MONGOLIA

Dr. Shahbaz Khan, the Director of UNESCO Cluster Office in Jakarta and Regional Bureau for Science in Asia and the Pacific, visited Mongolia and attended the Mongolian Innovation week on 09-12 May, 2017, in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  During his visit Dr.Khan delivered a keynote speech on “Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable development” at the National Innovation Forum held in the Government house on 10 May, 2017 and gave a presentation on “Role of Science, Technology and Innovation to deliver UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” at the International conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development on 11 May 2017.

Mr J.Batsuuri, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports received Prof. Shahbaz Khan on 10 May, 2017 and the sides exchanged views on further cooperation opportunities in science, technology and innovation sectors and negotiated on future cooperation. On behalf of UNESCO, Dr.Khan expressed UNESCO’s intention to provide policy support in creating a knowledge-based economy in Mongolia.

Prof. Khan was the Chief of Section on Sustainable Water Resources Development and Management at UNESCO, Paris from 2008 to 2012 and the Deputy Director and Senior Program Specialist at the UNESCO Office in Jakarta from 2012 to 2015. Since 2015, he was appointed as the Director of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Jakarta and Regional Bureau for Science in Asia and the Pacific.

Previously, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports in collaboration with UNESCO Cluster Office in Beijing and Jakarta, and the Science and Technology Policy Asian Network developed the Science and Technology Master Plan of Mongolia, 2007-2020. In the framework of implementation of the Master plan, UNESCO organized several trainings and events in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports of Mongolia.
