DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS WILL VISIT MONGOLIA

Dr. QU Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), will pay an official visit to Mongolia from 10 to 12 July at the invitation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia. This is the first visit by Dr. QU after he assumed the charge of FAO Director-General. The visit aims to strengthen collaborations in agriculture and food systems.

During his visit, Dr. QU Dongyu will meet state and government officials as well as related ministers to explore and strengthen the cooperation  between Mongolia and FAO towards building a more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems.

In line with promoting gender equality in agri-food systems, Dr. QU Dongyu will also engage with women leaders in the agricultural sector. These meeting will underscore the crucial role of women in agriculture, highlight their contributions to the industry, and discuss challenges they face. Dr. QU will reinforce FAO’s commitment to supporting inclusive and sustainable food systems in Mongolia, ensuring that women have equal opportunities and resources to contribute to and benefit from agricultural development.

Mongolia has been a member of FAO since 1973. Initially accredited through the FAO Representative office in China.  FAO Mongolia office was upgraded to the level of full independent representation in 2018. Over the years, the cooperation between FAO and Mongolia has grown with FAO emerging as a trusted ally, driving innovation and technology, supporting science and research, and shaping evidence-based policies in Food, Agriculture and Environment Sector. The wide range of projects and programmes implemented by FAO have benefited the lives and livelihoods of Mongolia’s population that heavily depend on agriculture and environmental conditions.
