Establishment of Diplomatic Relations: Diplomatic relations established on the November 5, 1921.

Two sides established their respective embassies in Ulaanbaatar and Moscow in 1922.

Principles of Relations During the official visit of the President of Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin to Mongolia, the Treaty on Friendly Relations and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Mongolia and the Russian Federation was signed on September 3rd 2019, in Ulaanbaatar, which made the bilateral relations between the two countries to a new level.

Trade and Economic Relations: As of August 2022: Total trade turnover with Russia reached 1746 million US dollars, an increase of 36.2 percent compared to the same period last year. Exports reached 48 million US dollars (decrease of 34.2 percent) and imports reached 1698 million US dollars (increase of 40.5 percent).

 

Main exports include mining products such as copper ore, concentrate,  tungsten ore, concentrate, molybdenum ore, concentrate, feldspar, leucite, nepheline and nepheline syenite, hard coal and knitted outerwear, beef, horse meat etc.

 

Main imports include petroleum products, trucks, wheat, nitrogen fertilizers, electricity, passenger and non-self-propelled freight cars etc.

Humanitarian Relations: According to the agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the Government of the Russian Federation on visa exemption (September 3, 2014) the citizens of the two countries can travel or transit through the territory of the other country for 30 days.

 

In 2020, 48 401 of our citizens traveled to Russia, and 30 980 Russian citizens traveled to Mongolia.

 

Every year, 600 students are granted the Russian Government scholarship.

 

In the 2021-2022 academic year, approximately 4,000 students, trainees, and post-graduate students from Mongolia studied at more than 220 universities in 60 cities of Russia.

Cultural Relations: Russian citizens A.S.Zheleznyakov, B.U.Kitinov, I.R.Utyamyshev, D.G.Khrustalev, D. N.Sultimov, and S.V.Kalmykov, E.A. Kuzmin have been appointed as Cultural Envoys of Mongolia in order to expand cultural relations and promote Mongolia.

 

Every year in October-November Friendship Month is organized in Ulaanbaatar and Moscow.

 

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Victory Day, the opening ceremony of the monument “On the roads of war” gifted by the people of Mongolia to the people of Russia took place on May 5, 2017 at Victory Park.
