Ambassador Sh. Battsetseg presented a copy of her letter of credence to His Excellency Francisco Bustillo Bonasso, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, on March 15, 2021 and officially assumed her duties. During the virtual ceremony, Ambassador Sh. Battsetseg highlighted that becoming the first-ever Ambassador accredited to Uruguay demonstrates the importance that the Government of Mongolia attributes to the cooperation between both countries and expressed her willingness to develop bilateral cooperation, particularly in the agricultural and livestock sector.

Minister Francisco Bonasso expressed his readiness to advance bilateral relations in the framework of South-South cooperation and support to develop closer ties between Mongolia and the “Mercosur” member countries.

In 2018, a consultative mechanism between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and Uruguay was established, and the citizens of the two countries travel without visa restrictions.
