THE PREPARATORY COMMITTEE FOR THE THIRD UN CONFERENCE ON LLDCs WAS SUCCESSFULLY HELD IN NEW YORK

The second session of the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) was convened on June 3, 2024, in New York.

The Permanent Representatives of Mongolia and Austria co-chaired the session and during the session Ms. Rabab Fatima, High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing states and the Secretary-General of the Conference, along with the representatives from 29 landlocked and transit countries, delivered statements.

During general discussion, our delegation highlighted Mongolia’s two initiatives reflected in the draft of new programme of action for next decade. These initiatives focus on strengthening the International Think Thank of LLDCs to mobilize its research and analytical capabilities in formulating policies and strategies in the thematic priority areas, as well as enhancing air connectivity in LLDCs.

One of the highlights of the session was the approval of preparatory and organizational documents for the Third UN Conference on LLDCs. The member states commended and adopted the draft of the new program of action for the decade and decided to submit it to the Third UN Conference, which is scheduled to take place in Gaborone, Botswana, later this year.
