The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly has commenced on September 10, 2024, H.E. Mr. Philemon Yang, the former Prime Minister of Cameroon, was sworn in and officially assumed the role of the President for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the inaugural meeting H.E. Mr. Philemon Yang outlined his priorities and objectives for the upcoming session under the theme, “Unity and diversity for advancing peace, sustainable development and human dignity, everywhere and for all.”
The General Debate of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly will take place from September 24 to 30, 2024, with the participation of heads of state and government from over 100 UN member states.
Prior to the General Debate of the 79th Session of the General Assembly, the Summit of the Future will be held on September 22–23, 2024, under the theme “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow.” This Summit will bring together heads of state and government from UN member states to discuss and shape the vision, direction, and scope of future cooperation on key issues such as sustainable development, science, technology, innovation, youth, and global governance. Three key documents are expected to be adopted: the ‘Pact for the Future,’ the ‘Declaration on Future Generations,’ and the ‘Global Digital Compact.
