Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia jointly with the United Nations Population Fund has organized a consultative meeting on the UNFPA 6th Country Program (2017-2021) Evaluation for Mongolia on 30 September 2020. Ms. Gerelmaa D, Director-General of the Multilateral Cooperation Department, MFA, informed the participants that the UN Development Assistance Framework for 2017-2021 has been extended by one year in connection with COVID-19 pandemic and consequently the UNFPA 6th Country Program also will be implemented until 2022. Ms. Gerelmaa also noted that UNFPA has worked effectively and efficiently at all levels through re-programing its programs and projects based on the needs and priorities. In addition, she emphasized that in line with the recommendations issued during the Program’s annual implementation review meeting of 2019, there a need to further prioritize reproductive health, unmet family planning needs, eradicating gender-based stigma, increasing women’s participation representation at decision-making levels and empowerment of youth issues.
Mongolia’s cooperation and partnership with UNFPA dates back to 1976 and we successfully completed 5 Country Programs over the past years. The 6th Country program is centered on 3 outcomes, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, youth development and gender equality.
UNFPA has been actively supporting and contributing both technically and financially to the Government policies and activities against COVID-19. To name a few, it has successfully mobilized 1.6 mln USD, established two new One Stop Service Centers (OSSCs) in Bayan-Ulgii and Khuvsgul aimags to provide service to survivors of violence and helped to set up real-time PCR laboratories in border provinces of Mongolia.
