FOREIGN MINISTER

Profile:     

BATTSETSEG Batmunkh, born on 9 December 1973 in Bayankhongor province, has been serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia since 2021. She is the third woman to be appointed as Foreign Minister of Mongolia. She strongly focuses on promoting gender
equality and empowering women and girls, especially those living in rural areas. In June 2023, she hosted the Female Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Ulaanbaatar which was the first time such a meeting was held in Asia.

More than a decade ago, she initiated the “Right-minded Mongolian” program, which later became a nation-wide campaign, aimed at instilling passion for learning in younger generations. She is a culturally proud and heritage-conscious Buddhist. With her keen interest in arts, she continues to support emerging singers, performers and artists.

Married, with three children.

Hobbies:

  • Gymnastics, fitness and ice skating.
  • Collects brooches and swans.
  • Enjoys reading novels and literature on Buddhist philosophy.
